» Tropical Storm Colin weakens

Tropical Storm Colin quickly fizzled today, degenerating into a low pressure area.

The National Hurricane Center assigned the tropical depression a name on Tuesday morning, but by 5 p.m. stated it was issuing its last advisory on the storm, unless it regenerates in the days ahead. At 5, the center reported the storm had maximum sustained winds near 40 mph.

The remnants of the storm are expected to pass to the northeast and north of the Leeward Islands on Wednesday and Wednesday night.

Wind shear over the Atlantic is expected to prevent the storm from regenerating during the next couple of days, but the Center didn’t rule out the possibility the storm could grow stronger again.

A few of the models used by the storm to forecast a storm’s projected path indicate the storm could reach a more favorable environment off the Southeastern United States coast over the weekend. And, while most models show the storm moving off into the North Atlantic, a few show it could approach the Florida coast.
